Exploring Motive: A Path to a Happier Life

Lately, I’ve been pondering the concept of motive and how it shapes our lives. As I’ve incorporated daily meditation into my routine, I’ve noticed myself becoming less reactive. However, I still find myself responding to life’s challenges in ways that aren’t always ideal.

It’s a fact of life that we can’t control what comes our way. We’ll all face illness, death, and difficult people. Some researchers even argue that free will is an illusion, suggesting that our reactions are predetermined by our genetics, family history, and childhood traumas.

So, I asked myself: If I can’t control life’s events or my innate reactions to them, how can I lead a happy life? Am I doomed to simply react to everything that comes my way?

This is where the importance of motive comes into play. I’ve realized that examining my intentions for every action I take can make a significant difference. When I act out of fear, trying to hedge my risks, or out of selfishness and greed, trying to acquire or hold onto something, the outcomes are rarely positive.

However, when my motives are rooted in generosity, kindness, love, and a desire to create harmony in the world, I’m planting seeds that will grow into something beautiful. These positive intentions seem to attract more positivity into my life.

By focusing on my motives, I’ve found a different approach to navigating life’s challenges. Good things are happening in my life, and I attribute much of that to this shift in perspective. I’m grateful for the support of those around me who have helped me on this journey of self-discovery and growth.

As we go through life, let’s remember to pause and consider our motives. It might just be the key to finding more happiness and fulfillment in our daily experiences.
