Learning Tai Chi: My Journey to Peacefulness

Practicing Tai Chi has been a transformative experience for me. Philosophically, Tai Chi aims to achieve a state of peacefulness. It’s not just about the movements, but also about quieting the mind and focusing on the postures, akin to meditation.

One fundamental posture in Tai Chi is called “standing like a tree”, where you imagine three strings pulling you up while the rest of your body remains relaxed. I’ve replaced my morning seated meditation with this practice, and it has brought me a sense of calm and readiness for the day.

There’s a common misconception that Tai Chi is an easy, elderly activity. In reality, it’s rooted in martial arts and can be quite challenging. Starting young can make it easier to master as you age.

This journey with Tai Chi has not only taught me about physical balance but also about mental tranquility.
